POPE DID NOT SAY "WOKE"
The awful spreading of misinformation is not limited to the MAGA crowd.

Please people, let's hold the rest of us to a higher standard than the MAGA cult by checking our facts and not sharing misinformation.
By now, I have seen memes on Facebook and other places claiming that the new Pope Leo XIV said something like this...
“To be called ‘woke’ in a world that sleeps through suffering is not an insult, it’s the gospel”
WRONG
“Woke means awakened by compassion”
WRONG
"You cannot follow both Christ and the cruelty of kings.”
WRONG
I like the intentions behind these false statements. I would even guess that the new Pope kind of agrees with them. But, use your common sense — The first Pope from the USA is not going to use language that is brutally politically divisive in his home country during his very first days as Pope.
When something is illogical, quick searches are easy to do. Creators of misinformation crap have their own twisted motives. The rest of us have a basic responsibility to do simple fact checks before sharing memes.
Snopes is a legitimate tool for checking the accuracy of a quote from a famous person. The Snopes Search Tool is easy to use.
Just because MAGA lies are all over the place, that does not mean that the rest of us should stoop to their level of dumb bullshit. The new Pope is yet to say “two wrongs don’t make a right” but I bet he would agree with that sentiment as well.
