Ghislaine Maxwell understands grooming. Now, she is being carefully groomed by Todd Blanche.
They have already had 10 hours of conversations where she has limited immunity. In these conversations, she cannot be prosecuted for anything she reveals so long as she is telling the truth. The illusion that Trump’s DOJ is talking to Ghislaine in order to get at the real story is silly, but it is the fodder that the MAGA media needs to unwind Trump’s new hot mess.
Nothing in the real world has changed since Ghislaine provided hundreds of hours of testimony in court and in depositions before she went to jail. So, what does Blanche need 10 hours (with more to come) to talk about? Well, grooming lies is a subtle business that takes time.
Who is kidding who?
These conversations are not getting at the truth about the past. These conversations are about crafting the right lies that will be told in the future.
Ghislaine Maxwell's attorney is David Oscar Markus. He is the man in the middle during the recent meetings with the Department of Justice and I do not think these meetings are finished.
The limited immunity conversations between Ghislaine and Todd Blanche might someday be made public. So, you can be sure the grooming in these meeting is subtle and nuanced.
However, conversations between David Markus and Todd Blanche will always be confidential and undocumented. Of course, conversations between Markus and Ghislaine are protected by attorney-client privilege so they will definitely never see the light of day. This triangle of dark secrecy must be obvious to everybody paying attention, right?
In other words, Todd Blanche can tell Markus exactly what Ghislaine needs to “remember” about Epstein and Trump, what needs to be denied, and what needs to be re-crafted. He can even tell Markus how to deflect back towards Trump’s political enemies. Blanche can explain what Ghislaine can expect in terms of a reduced sentence and/or a presidential pardon. A full on negotiation regarding how she lies going forward and how she gets her freedom back can happen outside of the public record.
What about who Trump is and how his team operates would suggest that this is not obviously what they are doing? This is what these people were born to do.
By the time Ghislaine and Blanche are together in a room in an official governmental capacity, Ghislaine already knows the things to say so that Blanche realizes how she intends to deliver on her side of the bargain.
The hard part for Ghislaine is trusting Trump’s team. How can she know that they will keep their side of the deal after she goes public to deliver the message they want her to say. She doesn’t know for sure but she is facing 20 years in prison so she does not have a lot to lose. Her attorney will have kept contemporaneous notes about his role in these negotiations that Trump will never want to see the light of day, so that’s a bit of leverage. At the end of the day, she has to trust her own lawyer if she wants a “get-out-of-jail-free” card.
I feel like this essay could have been written by “Captain Obvious” and yet I have to remind everybody that this is “pure speculation” on my part because I can’t find any credible media source explaining this angle on the story.
Ugh.
